Feasts to Be Had

Sri Lanka is rich in bold flavours within its cuisine, and you will find that local meals are centred around rice, leading to hearty dishes. A few of the national dishes are rice and curry, hoppers and kottu. Most Sri Lankan food incorporates a variety of spices; however, you can ask for less spice in most places. You will also find coconut used in many local side dishes, such as coconut milk–based curries, due to the abundance of coconuts on the island! There are many hotels where you can enjoy authentic local food, including places such as The Villa Bentota by KK Collection.

A Paradise for Jewellery Lovers

This little island is known for its abundance of gemstones. From precious stones like sapphire to quartz such as amethyst, you can find these gems set on a band of your choosing. You can also find a variety of jewellery shops across the country, offering everything from timeless classics to uniquely crafted pieces inspired by local culture. Sri Lanka also has several jewellery workshops where you can experience making your own rings or choose a piece to remember forever. Most times you'll also receive a letter of authenticity to ensure the best quality of any jewel you choose.

Enriching Ayurvedic Therapy

Ayurveda is an ancient medical practice that incorporates herbs and oils and has been used for about 5,000 years. Sri Lanka is the perfect place to experience Ayurvedic therapy, as the country is renowned for it. Ayurveda is based on the principle of prevention rather than cure, and it continues to be a staple in many locals’ lives. You can find relaxing Ayurveda retreats surrounded by nature that calm the senses and enhance the experience.

Amazing Safaris and Wildlife

There are about 26 national parks in Sri Lanka. Yala National Park and Minneriya National Park are two of the most popular safari destinations to explore. Many who travel here get to see plenty of elephants, deer, leopards, monkeys, and many other fascinating animals. Most safaris are accompanied by professionals in the area who usually know some of the best spots to find wildlife within the parks. There may be a few still moments, but once you have a sighting, it becomes a beautiful moment to take in and potentially capture a great picture. If you plan to take scenic photographs, be sure to do so quietly so you don’t scare off the animals.
