Swim at Streets Beach

Streets Beach located in South Bank is the world's eighth brilliant man-made marvel. Locals and tourists alike enjoy a swim in the huge beach-style lagoon. Wade into the calm blue waters, do a few laps in the adjacent Boat Pool or head to the Aquativity water park.

Walk around QAGOMA's air-conditioned hallways

The Queensland Art Gallery, as well as the Gallery of Modern Art, complement each other well. The city hosts world-class art exhibits which are often free to the public. Major exhibitions require you to purchase tickets but it's a price well paid for world-class exhibitions. If you would like to find accommodation close to these exciting places, make sure to check out hotels in Bowen Hills the likes of Oaks Brisbane Mews Suites.

Ride the CityHopper along the riverside

You may have noticed the red and white CityHopper boats darting across the river. They provide a free shuttle service from Sydney Street Terminal in New Farm Park to North Quay located in Brisbane's CBD.

Discover farmers markets

Brisbane adores farmers. Nearly in every suburb, you will discover a weekend market, and everyone has their very own favourites of fresh vegetables, meat, flowers and artisan items. Local favourites include the West End as well as Jan Powers Powerhouse Markets held on Saturdays. Check out the Brisbane City Markets on Wednesdays or Thursdays.

Free local music

Brisbane has Australia's biggest free live music programme. Every week, regional and visiting musicians and artists play on stages throughout Brisbane's Queen Street Mall, South Bank, Post Office Square, and other areas.

Sprawling on the grass

It's easy to understand why locals adore New Farm Park. Enjoy a riverfront breeze while sitting on the green grass by the riverside, or bring a picnic blanket and play football or even Frisbee with your buddies in the oval area.

Take the Riverwalk back to the city

Return to the CBD by taking the Riverwalk following your snooze in the park. This dedicated walkway winds its way from New Farm right to the city along the spectacular Brisbane River.

Visit the Queensland Museum

The Queensland Museum's Discovery Centre and Wild State exhibits will take you on a journey across the natural world. The museum's general entrance is free, and there is much to see, but certain special exhibits need tickets.

Sunrise viewing at Mount Coot-tha

Brisbane's metropolitan skyline must be viewed in the early hours of the morning. Before the sun rises, go in your vehicle and drive up the mountain to locate a viewing position before the Earth rotates Brisbane around to daylight.

Window shopping in Queen Street Mall

Retail therapy is a famously costly kind of recreation, so abandon the credit cards for this activity. Queen Street Mall is the beating heart of the city, and it's the ideal location to watch bustling office employees scurry past. Queen Street Mall is located at the intersection of Queen and King Streets in the centre of the city.

Hiking close to the city

Do you want to go on an exciting adventure but don't want to head out too far? Try out these treks and walking routes that are less than 30 kilometres from the city centre. If you do not have access to a vehicle to go there, many routes are reachable for the price of a bus ticket.
