Sri Lanka’s South Coast is an amazing place to visit for travellers. It has many diverse attractions for visitors to explore, such as breathtaking beaches, historical sites, lively culture, and possibilities to engage in leisure activities and adventure. Look at how to make the best out of your stay in the Galle, Unawatuna and Mirissa areas.

The most suitable time to visit there

December through April is the ideal month to visit Sri Lanka’s South Coast. The reason behind this is that you find tranquil waves in the sea and the weather is sunny, dry and warm. Only a little rain can be expected during this period so visitors can enjoy plenty of outdoor activities. This situation makes it ideal for beach-based activities as there are ample beautiful beaches scattered along Sri Lanka’s southern coastline. Some of the most prominent cities here include Galle, Unawatuna and Mirissa which house stunning beaches.

The off-season is from May to September when the southwest monsoon hits the area. Showers can be expected during this time, therefore it is less crowded there. Since only a few enter this area during this span, accommodation prices are low. This is the best time to head there if you are searching for budget-friendly lodgings and excursions. You will also be able to enjoy the landscapes in the area at their best, as the downpours bring on ample greenery.

How to get there

There are several ways to travel to Sri Lanka’s southern coast. One of the easiest ways to head there is to rent a vehicle and make your journey along the Southern Expressway which has exists to or near some of the prominent locations in the area. However, this option is quite expensive though it provides a comfortable travelling experience.

For a more pocket-friendly transport option take the train to the south coast. This is not only easy on the purse but you will also get to enjoy panoramic views of the Indian Ocean as the train makes its journey close to the shores.

Galle, Unawatuna and Mirissa are three key places in the region which travellers like to frequent. Visit the ancient colonial past when you visit Galle.
